Washington Landscape Photography

Washington state is defined by the dramatic divide between its wet, forested western slopes and the rain-shadowed high desert east of the Cascades, a contrast that makes it one of the most photographically diverse states in the country. Mount Rainier, visible from much of the Pacific Northwest on clear days, is one of the most striking volcanic peaks in North America. These images include the ancient temperate rainforests of Olympic Peninsula draped in moss and fern, the rugged coastline of the Olympic Peninsula where sea stacks emerge from morning fog, and the vast open skies above the rolling Palouse hills. Washington's persistent coastal mist and dramatic volcanic skyline give it an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the American West.
